Discipleship is another word for maturity.  The definition of a disciple is “a follower or student of a teacher or leader.”  Being born again is instantaneous, but discipleship is a lifelong process.  Discipleship is something that is taught, not caught.  In this message, Neal Jameson encourages all believers to become disciples and to make disciples.

All believers are called to be disciples and to make disciples.

All believers are called to be disciples

When leaving the military, the men and women have become disciples of the military.  They have been taught how to speak, dress, march and fight.  They spent countless hours training so that when they were in battle, fighting is automatic (they can react instead of think).  Many organizations are vying to make you their disciples…whether it is McDonalds, the military or a college.  However, we have been called to become disciples of Jesus!

Paul admonished believers to:

“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”  I Corinthians 11:1

As disciples, we can walk in authority and preach the gospel. However, being a disciple will mean taking risks and we need to be prepared for persecution.

We are called to make disciples

We are COMMANDED to make disciples!

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.”  Matt. 28:18-20

We have to teach and mentor others.  In order to do so, we must know it ourselves!
