This week, there was a football game between the Badgers and Washington State. There was a call that Brent (& many others!) thought should have been a safety, but the refs called something different. This was a turning point in the game. When Washington State’s quarterback was sacked, the players’ heads on the bench were hanging low. Then, when the Badgers fumbled the ball, the Washington State sideline players were dancing & celebrating (while the Badgers’ heads were low).
Momentum is a big thing…in sports, serving God, families & work. When things aren’t going the way you want, how do you respond? Do you sit with your head down? The enemy has already been defeated! HEADS UP!
We were Born to Win!
Colorado coach, Deion Sanders is often in the news. They like to show the clip of him saying, “I was born to win.” Unfortunately the news only shares part of the comment. Sanders goes on to say how God created him and gave him the gifts he has. Who are they to speak about what God created. His story includes great athletic success (winning multiple Super Bowls), then a great depression that led to a suicide attempt and finally finding Jesus. Deion Sanders WAS born to win and WE are born to win too!
“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 Jn 5:4-5
Why do we get Defeated?
We get defeated when the ref makes a bad call. We get defeated when someone sees us wrong. We get defeated when things don’t go the way we think they should, in the timeframe we would like.
Start Winning
If we are born to win, why aren’t we winning? Too often, we aren’t intentionally sharing Jesus, we’re not using our gifts and sometimes we just don’t care.
Several times in the book of John, we see Andrew bringing people to Jesus. We need to start bringing people to Jesus! Bring them to church or an event, read scripture to them, encourage, and walk alongside them during challenging times.
Use your gifts to advance the kingdom of God. How are you using your home? How are you using your car?
Do you even care about others? Christians are often called hypocrites because the world doesn’t see that we care about them.
