As we are amid the Christmas season, many of us have days that we “don’t feel the Christmas spirit.” It is so easy to get focused on the many details of the season (the tree, gifts, gatherings) that we lose focus of the most important thing! We can “find” the Christmas spirit as we take the focus off ourselves and make things right with God.
Take the Focus Off Ourselves
“I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.” Luke 2:10
This good news of great joy is as much for US today as it was for recipients the day Jesus was born. We’re going to miss the joy of the season if we focus on ourselves instead of Jesus. We need to thank God for what He has done for us.
Make Things Right
“While we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” Titus 2:13-14
We need to say “no” to worldly passions because they will never bring us peace or joy. When we mess-up and repeat our sins, we must get back up! Keep moving forward. If your struggle seems too big, you’ve been defeated in your mind. Satan is not going to stop trying to make you fall. We can find victory through Christ though!
When our hearts grow hard, we don’t want to celebrate. As we confess our sins, we experience victory and can’t help but to celebrate what God has done for us.
You will not find joy in the things of Christmas, only in the Savior that we are celebrating.
