God is in the business of restoration and making things new. Too often, when people are struggling with sin (and want to get help), the church isn’t there to help them through their struggles. Therefore, it is easy for people to feel like they have to put on a “church face” and look put together in order to go to church. The opposite is true…God meets us where we are at. As the church, we need to help people who are seeking help to overcome their sins.
Deal With the Sins in Your Life
It’s easy to judge others for their sins. However, we need to make sure we are dealing with our OWN sins before judging others.
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matt 7:3-5
Repent of your sins – ask God to forgive you and turn from your wrongful ways. If you are struggling with your tongue (gossip, foul language, lying), then use your tongue to praise God. If you’re struggling with a sin of your hands, use your hands to be a blessing to others.
Sin is like putting lipstick on a pig – you’re not fooling anyone! Deal with the sin in your life!
Make Disciples
Jesus said we are to make disciples, not make big churches! To make a disciple, we must first care about the person. Be intentional and pursue people.
If someone needs to deal with sin, we are to do gently.
“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:1-2
As you are speaking into someone’s life, make sure to speak from the Word of God. If they ask you what YOU think about something, go with them to find out what the Word of God says about that topic.
God is in the Restoration Business
God is in the restoration business!!! We as the church need to get into the restoration business because that is the business God is in. God pursues us, so we need to pursue others. God hasn’t given up on the prodigals, so we shouldn’t either. Start now…it’s not too late!!
