The Holy Spirit is our greatest teacher. He will rebuke, train and correct us. Pastor Brent had a drama-filled week. As he was praying about all the things that were seemingly going wrong in his life, the Holy Spirit revealed a few things to him, specifically regarding humility.
Check to see where your focus is
First, Pastor Brent realized that he was focusing on his difficulties, instead of on God. God instructs us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6-7
We need to stop worrying and trying to solve problems on our own. PRAY about them instead!
Look to see who is steering your life
We need to evaluate who is steering our lives…is it us or Jesus? If you are attempting to take control of your life, instead of letting Jesus direct you:
First, confess your sins and get right with God. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
Second, pray for yourself and OTHERS!
Third, put your selfish desires to bed. Selfish desires are part of human nature. We need to surrender our lives to God and then ask him to use our gifts and talents to honor Him.
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” (James 3:13)
When things don’t seem to be going your way (or going all wrong!), use this as a reminder to ask God what He is trying to show you.
