We’re all dealing with some trial in our lives.  How do we overcome our challenges and additions in this fallen world?  We become intimate with God.  We become intimate with God by drawing near to Him, earnestly seeking Him and pressing forward.

Draw Near to God

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”  James 4:8

We need to make the necessary steps to draw near to God…pray, read the Bible and make changes in our lives that are holding us back.  We need to confess our sins and change our sinful patterns.

Earnestly Seek God

In order to save his life, David was running from Saul.  David was called a man after God’s own heart because he RAN to God.  He put situations in God’s hands.

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land where there is no water.”  Psalm 63:1

We need to stop trying to fix our problems on our own strength.  Instead, we need to rely on God’s guidance, help and strength.

Furthermore, we need to make sure that we’re not making decisions when we are hungry, angry, lonely or tired!

Keep Pressing Forward

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:14

If you are going to be successful in anything, you will have failures along the way.  Keep pressing forward, even when you fail!

Three ways to press forward:

  • Be strong in the Lord. 2 Timothy 2:1 admonishes us to be “strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”  We can’t do things in our own strength, we must rely on God’s strength.
  • Don’t be stubborn! How easy it is for us to dig our heels in and refuse to change or make things right with people.  Instead, we need to humble ourselves and move forward.
  • Commit to the goal! The goal of our church is to make disciples.  Are you working on becoming a disciple?  Are you intentionally making disciples!
