Pastor Brent went for a walk in the woods (on a hunting related mission, of course!) and he tripped. He ended up getting entangled in a thorn bush. Likewise, it is easy for Christians to get entangled in the things of the world. In order to avoid this entanglement, we need to walk with God, cut off the sins in our lives, live a life of love and devote ourselves to prayer.
Walk with God
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him.” Colossians 2:6
In order to avoid entanglement, we must be walking with God DAILY. This means getting in the Word daily!
One way to tell where your life is at, is looking at your closest relationships. Are your friends holding you accountable or are they leading you astray? The church is here to foster meaningful relationships.
Cut Off the Sins in Your Life
Pastor Brent found the perfect place for his tree stand, but he needed to cut away the brush to create the perfect shooting lanes. We too need cut off the sins in our lives to become all God has called us to be!
“In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.” Colossians 2:11-12
Circumcision is the cutting off of flesh – it is cutting the sins out of our lives.
Life a Life of Love
“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” Hebrews 13:1-4
We are to love one another!
Furthermore, we are to show hospitality. This means inviting people to your house! Have Jesus parties or share Jesus at your Packer parties. We can’t just sit around and let others do it.
Pray for those in prison. Reach out – send a letter.
Honor marriages.
Devote Yourselves to Prayer
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2
One of the most important things we can do is PRAY!!! Our prayer lives will grow and develop the more we pray.
