People react differently in snow storms… some people buy up excess necessities & then hunker down; others use caution and only go somewhere if necessary; and others don’t change anything and refuse to let the storm interfere with their lives. The ways people handle the same storm can be extremes.
In the church, we often see extremes. Some churches are very legalistic, while others are very carnal. Instead of either of these extremes, the church should be teaching we need to be led by the spirit and not the flesh.
“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” Romans 8:5
As Christians, we need to make sure we are living by the Spirit and not the flesh. We do this by putting God in His proper place, dealing with sin, and trusting God.
Put God in His Proper Place
“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24
This fear is a reverence or awe of God, which should lead us to worship Him. Satan wants us to worship anything besides God (ourselves, entertainment, careers, relationships).
Deal with Sin
You can’t drive in excess speeds in a snowstorm – you will eventually end up in the ditch or in an accident. We also can’t tempt fate when dealing with sin in our lives! We need to get rid of sin in our lives! Take it VERY seriously! This is how we are to deal with sin:
“Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.” Matt 18:7-8
Do WHATEVER is necessary to deal with sin!
Trust God
When driving in the fog, it is easier to follow someone than to be in the lead because our lights aren’t very effective in the fog.
God has given us the Bible to lead and guide us through life.
“Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
When we are being led by the Word of God, we can be led by the spirit instead of our flesh. Get in the Word of God!!!
